At Xylon Corporation, smoked oak is more than a surface finish. It’s a transformation that happens deep inside the wood. Also known as fumed oak, it’s created through a natural reaction between the oak’s tannins and carefully controlled ammonia vapors.
We use premium European oak with high tannin content, placed in sealed chambers where ammonia vapors penetrate the surface and permanently darken the wood. This color runs through the entire wear layer, so it remains even after sanding. The process can produce anything from warm golden browns to deep chocolate tones, depending on the smoking time.
Once smoked, the boards are aerated, then brushed or left smooth before being treated with oil or lacquer. This enhances grain definition, provides durability and creates a unique depth of color that surface stains can’t match.
Smoked oak floors work beautifully in both modern and traditional interiors, offering a rich, timeless look where the beauty is truly built into the wood.
